First, I’ll introduce you to Oxjam, the UKs biggest music festival which sees hundreds of volunteers organise epic local music events all across the country in aid of Oxfam. I’m volunteering for Oxjam Tunbridge Wells Takeover, an Oxjam event that culminates in a Takeover of the town, with 6 venues showcasing the best of local music, all on one day in October.
Jam Slam is the launch event for Oxjam Tunbridge Wells Takeover, and is also part of Our Big Gig. It’s all happening at Market Square, an underused part of Tunbridge Wells that we aim to rejuvenate with the event, which brings live music to the top part of town where it is less frequently seen.
Music and poetry slams will kick off the event, which sees professional Spoken Word Poets Tommy Sissons and Invokal take to the stage before headline musicians Mr 6, Lee Willz, Hot Fiction and Ricky and the Hats.
As well as the performances, a Mini Market will showcase local traders and businesses while The Twisting Pig Hogroast, Cripes It’s Crepes and The Sussex Arms will provide refreshments for a perfect afternoon!
The best part about this event though, is that it is organised not only in support of Oxfam, but also in support of Tunbridge Wells, local musicians and local businesses. We’re all about the community at Oxjam Tunbridge Wells!
Jam Slam is taking place at Market Square, Royal Victoria Place on Sunday 14th July from 3-8pm.
